Micro-Needling - A Radical Skin Treatment That Works

By Juanita Swindell

Micro-Needling is a radical medical cosmetic treatment that is a kind of Collagen Induction Therapy. This procedure can be carried out in a clinic in addition to home care treatments. This new skin care treatment is gaining in popularity mainly because of the fact that shows results so quickly. While it is safe overall, it is necessary to understand what it involved and who can be a suitable candidate for it and to consult with a professional before undergoing this procedure.

Wrinkles, scars, uneven skin tone and stretch marks are all a result of lower levels of collagen in the skin. If the human body had the capacity to produce extra collagen, these would not appear on your skin at all. But the fact is that as you grow older the body loses its capacity to produce collagen and that is when fine lines and wrinkles make an appearance on your skin.

Micro-needling is one way of giving nature a helping hand to rejuvenate your skin. It creates hundreds of microscopic channels and encourages collagen production. This helps in reducing the appearance of winkles and other skin imperfections. Consistent use of this treatment also prevents them from reappearing.

Scarless Treatment

Micro-channeling releases growth factors that promote healing and there is also no scarring on the skin. Normal woven collagen gets deposited and the skin starts looking younger and gets rejuvenated. There are numerous delivery systems in this procedure. But many dermatologists suggest that the roller system method is the most effective form of Micro-Needling. It is cost-effective, simple and safe and the results are noticeable within a short period of time.

Precautions

If you wish to undergo Micro-Needling treatment it is important to first consult a doctor as not everyone is a suitable candidate for it. It is not suitable for those who:
• Have used isotretinion within the preceding 3 months
• Have open abrasions, cuts or wounds on the skin
• Have undergone any radiation treatment over the past year
• Have any skin condition/infection like herpes simplex
• Are breast-feeding or pregnant
• Have a history of hypertrophic scars, poor wound-healing pr keloid.

It takes around 6 weeks for collagen-synthesis to take place and around 6 months for the complete effect of the treatment to show through, patients will be able to see a difference in the appearance of their skin right from the time the first treatment is carried out. Some will also feel that the fine lines have vanished after the first treatment.
